Sometimes it's hard to distinguish between satire and reality, but ladies and gents, this one is apparently the truth: Homer Simpson has converted to Arab. I don't need to say anything, the link is funny enough.
Badr Shamshoon anyone?!
[Danny, if you still read this blog, this one's for you. Will either disgust you or make you shoot soda out of your nose - either way someone will be disgusted]

Why, thank you of thinking of me pangyah- or at least I think it was me- it's so weird to be called Danny- like a slice of my distant past- no one's called me that in 7 years or so...
Nonetheless, please forgive me, I'm afraid I haven't really watched the Simpsons in a few years, so I wasn't particularly offended or tickled, but it was pretty funny to read about the kids' reactions to the Simpsons- the one who thought it was a bunch of strange people doing strange things to one another; and the other who had no idea what was going on but still thought it was funny. I certainly wouldn't let my kids watch this cartoon if I had any :S.
I dont think it'd work to censure the Simpsons though- When I used to watch it, the whole reason I thought it was funny was because it made fun of everybody on an equal basis- from Christians to Atheists, to Hindus and Buddhists; from Republicans to Democrats to Hippies; from intellectuals to... well, Homer-ians. And it also referenced all kinds of bizarre, random cultural texts, from the weirdest books and short-stories to movies like Koyaanisqatsi (i think thats how its spelled)- which I dont think anyone outside of film school would have ever heard of, or at least I certainly hope no one's been made to sit through.
Anyways, the whole point is that it took a slew of Harvard-educated writers to come up with references to the most remote bits of American culture- to screen a show like that in a country that hasn't been completely culturally colonized by the US would be a waste of time, i think.
I'm sorry though, I dont think that's the response you wanted :(
What is wrong with the world?!!! Dan, dude, definitely not the response I expected, whew. That's like a research paper, without the footnotes. Lol. And on the SIMPSONS! So to answer my rhetorical question above, dear Dan, you are.
I'm starting to think that everyone I know has become an intellectual. Poor me, can't even attempt to crack a joke without it being deconstructed. That's probably going to happen after this post too.... oh my tortured life.
alas, i feel the agony in your words, the pain of your torture, the hurt of your betrayal by the world- poor pangyah. Therefore, I will say no more.
However, i shall urge you, instead of watching the Simpsons- which has drastically gone downhill of late anyways- to read PG Wodehouse: who needs Homer when you can have Jeeves? or Bart when you can have Freddie and the Right Honourable Gallahad Threepwood? Or Mr Burns and Smithers when you can have Clarence Lord Emsworth, Earl of Blandings, and his silver-ribbon-winning pig, the Empress of Blandings?! Very droll writer, Mr Wodehouse. lol.
Oh, also, it's not that unusual to find a research paper on the Simpsons- most universities today teach classes on the Philosophy of the Simpsons, or the Theology of the Simpsons, or the Simpsons and Culture, or the Simpsons and Worldview, or the Simpsons and Pop-culture, etc. I'm sure there've been as many if not more research papers written on the Simpsons than there have been papers written on the Matrix.
Hey, that's hilarious bub, i didn't realize cows were that flatulent, but i guess it makes sense if they eat that much grass...
